SECTOR MINISTER,HON.NIKPE PAID A COURTESY VISIT TO GRDA.

Hon. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, the Minister for Transport and MP for Saboba, paid a courtesy visit to the Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA) on Thursday, February 13, 2025. Accompanied by his team, the visit aimed to engage with GRDA’s management and staff, discuss project progress, and explore ways to provide support.

Hon. Nikpe’s visit underscores the importance of the railway sector in Ghana’s development. The GRDA, an agency under the Ministry of Transport, plays a crucial role in promoting economic growth and socio-economic development through efficient railway services.

The visit also highlights the government’s commitment to enhancing the country’s transportation infrastructure. By engaging with GRDA’s management and staff, Hon. Nikpe gained valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities facing the railway sector, ultimately informing policy decisions and support initiatives.

The CEO of GRDA, Dr Appoh mentioned that there is the need to revive suspended projects on the Western line, and it’s a collaborative effort with the Sector Minister and Ministry of Finance. 

The Tema-Mpakadan line, being a capital-intensive project, necessitates efficient operationalization. To maximize its potential, we plan to facilitate onward shipping using ferries to transport goods to Buipe.

Additionally, we will revamp the Accra-Tema line to provide a smoother ride for passengers, enhancing their overall commuting experience.

Hon. Nikpe gave an assurance to provide securities to help remove encroachers along the railway line, this is a significant step towards addressing the challenges faced by GRDA.

This collaborative approach will help to enhance the efficiency and safety of the railway system, ultimately contributing to Ghana’s socio-economic development.
