FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Statement from the Ghana Railway Development Authority on Recent Incidents
Accra, 12 November 2025 — The Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA) strongly condemns two disturbing incidents that occurred yesterday, 11 November 2025.
During regular working hours, one of our trains DMU2 operating near Tema was attacked by individuals who hurled stones at the moving train, endangering both staff, passengers, and infrastructure. Later that evening, the General Manager (GM) of the passenger service operations at Tema, a dedicated member of our team, was assaulted on his way home at Ashaiman. He is currently receiving medical care, and the Authority is offering full support to him and his family during this time.
These acts of violence and vandalism are not isolated. They reflect a troubling pattern that threatens the safety of railway personnel and infrastructure and undermines the safety of our national transport system. We are working closely with law enforcement agencies to investigate these incidents and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Effective immediately, the GRDA is taking decisive action to protect our operations and personnel. We are issuing a formal directive for all unauthorized occupants and structures along the railway lines to vacate the premises. Eviction processes will begin immediately. This measure is necessary to ensure the safety of our workers, passengers, and the public.
We urge all citizens to respect the railway corridor and support our efforts to maintain a secure and efficient transport network. Anyone with information related to these incidents is encouraged to contact the authorities.
